Since this probably is the time that people have had holidays or are on holiday, I supose this would be the thread for submitting interesting holiday stories. I've got two impressive stories, I know they are true, so you don't have to convince me that I'm lying.

Ok first story (you probably won't believe me, but I know it's true). I'm verry alergic to nuts. If I have an icecream scooped with the same spoon that scooped pistache icecreem I usually throw up within minutes. After that I'm usually sick for 1 or 2 days.

Well in the holiday I ate a bread with whole pistaches in it. I didn't know they where pistaches, they where soft because the bread was warm. But obviously they where because I became sick (I had eaten an entire pistache nut!).

Immediately I got something to puke in, but for myself I started praying for the reaction to stop. Then my mother also prayed that I wouldn't be sick long. Before I even threw up, the sickness faded away (before I even puked!). I wasn't healed instantly, but in a matter of minutes I was fit enough to go along to the beach as we had planned (I even desided [out of faith] not to take along the thing to puke in)! It did take longer than a couple of minutes for us to leave to the beach though.

By the time I was at the beach, I didn't notice at all that I was sick (I could swim along and everything)! Even though I had eaten an entire pistache nut! I'm sure I've eaten an entire nut, because my mother checked the bread and showed me what where the nuts, I'm 100% sure I ate one of them!

You're free not to believe me in this, or draw your own conclusions on how it happend and think I just don't get how it really went or anything. But thats not what this thread is about. If you want to respond to this testimony, look up the old thread about prayer healings, but I don't know if I'll respond to your comments.

Ok, the second story is more spectacular to the non-believers:

We where on holiday in Italy, but on the way back we visited family in France. The day before we visited we also went to Monaco. When we drove back from Monaco to the camping, we had to leave the highway at Nice. There my father stopped for a gang of 3 musceled man at their mid twenties who seemd to want to cross the road at a zebra.

one of them slowly crossed the road in front of the car (so my father couldn't drive). The other two walked to the car (the men looked friendly, but strong). One of them seemed to check the situation to deside whether they'd do it or not.

Then they suddenly opened the doors at my mother and my little sister to look for things to steal. In the end they only stole my mothers bag (with our passports/creditcard/car papers/keys/address etc.), but it was a frightning situation. Especially for my little sister.

Later we heared that this was verry common in this area of France. You always have to drive with locked doors there (accept maybe on the highway, for safety)! In fact they said that we where lucky that they didn't have weapons, because they could have pointed a gun at our heads just as well!

For the 1st, I do believe that you didn't feel any pain anymore. If you have enough faith you can make pain go away. Although I think it has to do because if you are praying some kind of addon comes free in your brains which makes you "see" things and feel things, sometimes called placebo-effect.

For the 2nd, I'm shocked. You stop for people at a zebra crossing and that's what you get.

I do agree with Rhovanion, also about the Placebo-Effect. It isn't said for nothing "god is in all of us" in the bible. IE you are your god, you can answer your prayers if able. So when you strongly believe you won't get sick, wammo.
Or maybe some scientific proof.
Also, before hell breaks loose: IMO, etc.
It's an awesome story though: "god saves guy from pistache nut, read all about the fierce battle, extra extra".

The guys at the zebra shouldn't have messed with a believer. They will pay. In hell.

I hope not, we've been praying for them anyway. There was a lot of poverty in that area, they need change...

Also I know about the placebo effect, I believe that effect does work, but I also believe that God does miracles. But this is not the place to discuss that. Besides if it was a placebo-effect, it wouldn't have worked if I had no faith :P

What is your point? You are the most religious guy I know, so faith enough I'd say. You have faith in god, though the placebo-effect applies to many faiths.

I didn't really try to make a point, because I don't think it was the placebo effect. The thought behind that statement was whether my vision or "yours" (speaking generally) is truth, at least mine saved me at least a day being sick...
So it was kind of a "nana-nana-na-na, I win :P " statement... ;)

I see. But then relate

to the placebo-effect. So it could still be the placebo-effect and god, you see?

I know that God often uses things like nature, humans, objects etc. to do things, so I'd agree that it's possible that God used the placebo-effect to heal me.

Quoting Sandman:

In fact, it isn't said at all, in the bible that is :P
You probably refer to the Holy Spirit living in us, but not all of us. Just the Christians, not because we're special, but because we're forgiven. Just to prevent people from think thinking "you Christians think you're so special" (admitting this sometimes might be true that we think so). God doesn't become one with sins, so he wants to forgive us first. But God doesn't work through us if we don't alow Him, etc. Who has another holliday storie?

Nicely put.

I don't actually have a holiday story, except that I moved to campus and will start Computer Science soon. I've got an awesome room etc and nice people to live with.

I killed a man and buried him under an ash tree. I then assumed his identity for the rest of my holiday and acted like a complete and utter asshole. So everyone hates him. Hallelujah, praise the Lord.

Anyway PEader, you know it's not nice to just kill people. I think you should appologise to that man...

That defense only works to an extend though - if, like some people would say, we could walk on water with enough faith in ourselves then why do we fall down the stairs? If you honestly believe there's a step there.

Anywho my holidays where rather uneventfull (apart from the inevitable train delays). I didn't even meet a drunk marijuana guy on the train this time!

Believe me or not. If one believes he can walk on water he probably will be able to do so. At least he will believe he is able to, even till the very last second before he drowned; this in contradiction to the current scientologic paradigm. It is all a matter of how you use your brains. We often think logical in numbers of what is possible or not. Like: division by zero is impossible, but actually it is possible. The result is positive infinity.

So far my philosopher's statement. :p

-1 / 0 is negative infinity.

But Rhovanion, tell us about your vacation.
