Now already for a week, a new game package has been for sale on Steam: Command 'n Conquer Remastered Collection. This comes from the makers of the original strategy game Command 'n Conquer, and Command 'n Conquer: Red Alert. It holds these 2 games including expansion packs rebuilt for 4K screen resolution, with new graphics, a new multiplayer lobby, new song tracks and videos.

C&C was massively popular when I was in the highest classes of elementary school, and first years of high school. I could visit friends and multiplayer Red Alert on their house network with them. I've long been playing this after too, because it did something for my thinking. The thing is however that it was a really low resolution game, and online gaming had gone broken. They fixed these things. It's really good for if you need a game to play with some friends on a network. It can be yours for 20 Euros!

Red Alert also works great in other wide screen resolutions (like HD 1920x1080), however has the graphics precision of 4K. The graphics really rock. Check it out below:

I once convinced a group of IRC friends from our #bilge channel to play the original Red Alert over the internet. It was great fun and a success. It was hard however to make it work, we had to use a program that simulated a game LAN, which we had to crack. No more of that. What if everyone buys this game, we could give it a try.

I kind of missed out on C&C, but I did play Dune 2 back in the day. All this talk of C&C made me play that again (if you have the pak files of the original game, you can install an remake version of it [different bugs / slight gameplay improvements] on a modern machine using: http://dunelegacy.sourceforge.net/)

I never got to play Dune, incidentily it never reached me properly. Anyway I have been playing Red Alert remastered. Basically when I play on the side of "Turkey", I feel on my best. Often with another side picked and I am attacking a base, and then scroll elsewhere, often my entire army disappears from the map. With Turkey that does not happen. I always pick the color orange, because red and white are always taken already. Orange makes your tanks weaker it seems. I'm also good at playing with Germany and USSR.

The trick really is to constantly build units, and put 2 or 3 of a type in little groups. For example medium tanks and artillery. Then You can drive in a base easily, group by group going in (not at once).

I want to notify people of the fact that Red Alert Remastered Collection can be played online successfully. I even managed to host a game from behind a router which normally let's nothing through. This is all internal workings through Steam. And I have to say I won my first online game!
