I just installed 8 GB DDR3 1333 MHz RAM dual kit on my laptop (as opposed to the previous 4 GB). My laptop is faster than ever now!!! You know why? It is no longer caching to disk. It is putting all volatile data in RAM. Switching programs, opening any app only takes 0.05 seconds. :D!!! MAN I LOVE THIS!! =) <3 wooh ____________ |

Sigh, my first computer only had 80 MB hard drive storage... At some point I got a CD-ROM drive for it, where the CD-ROM could hold more data than would fit on my hard drive. I would have to delete everything on my PC to be able to play Dune 2... (which can now be played online at: http://play-dune.com/) Anyway, congratulations on your upgrade. ____________ |

I have one of those laptops with 4 GB RAM and only 3 GB recognised.

Rincewind, that's simply because you didn't turn on PAE (Physical Address Expansion). I assume you have a Windows machine. This usually happens on Windows machines because it's not enabled by default. I have 64-bit win7 and 7,86 GB RAM recognized. The rest is probably for drivers.

Didn't try to be funny. I guess my thinking process was: 1. "I had 8GB three years ago, and now that's still concidered a lot..." 2. "When working with virtual machines, 8GB isn't even that much". 3. "Why is there so little improvement in all that time." 2. "Time...." 1. "Time..." (imagine the typical budget series ripply effect) 0. "Well if I compare it to how it was 20 years ago, there has been much improvement..." You see? That's how I try to be funny (and fail). So don't ever accuse me of trying to be funny when I'm not trying again!
