More news.

ok, since two days ago, I've added about 20 sounds I found on the internet, and 12 songs which I've made myself at some point in time. (Only 4 of them I made yesterday). Some of them don't even fit that well into the game, but I don't feel like fixing that. It's better with music than without.

Also, the game is fully playable from beginning to end, with 2 bosses. The first boss is ready, and I love him :p (see earlier log)

The second boss isn't what I wanted it to be originally, but I got a bit lazy... You can kill him, and it can kill you, but it only has 1 phase. I like my bosses to have 2 phases. One phase where you can't hurt him and need to figure out how to hurt him, and the second phase would be the actual hurting part.

Lastly, I went back and edited every single level, to make them less annoying than the previous version. I understand in the last version it was really annoying that you could die in one go, if an enemy knocked you off a platform. Well, I removed alot of holes, so you have less "death" places to fall into, making the game less annoying.

Hopefully, I'll have this game uploaded by tomorrow.

Still a work in progress

Man, this game has become my lifes work for some odd reason.

I've always wanted to make a supernintendo-ish game... I think Nintendo had it's peak moment with the super nintendo, and I don't think they'll ever top that.

But anyway. I work on this game on and off. More off than on actually. I think I started this game like 4 years ago for a competition. Well, since that competition, not alot has been done.

For the last week I've done some bugfixing, but finally decided to add sound and music. I'll be making the music myself on my piano. In fact, most of the music will be just the piano.

Originally, I wanted to have that authentic SNES midi feel to it, but that's just so hard to get right. So instead I use my 12 years of experience playing the piano.

I don't know when I'll release a new version of this game, and I don't know whether it will ever be finished the way I wanted it, but I do want to put up a version here some time.

Oh yeah, all I can say is that the game is different from the last version. It still has most of the same graphics (although some stuff was redrawn), but it plays a little different. It's less annoying with deaths for one.

I hope I can start working on that final boss. I've got the smaller boss ready, so all I really need now is the music, the sounds and the final boss. Then I'm done with the WIP. Originally I wanted 4 times more levels, cause I need them to build up the story, but I don't know if that'll ever happen.

Oh yes, I'm very sleepy, so I might be repetitive. I probably should have said that in the beginning.

Level Smashing Fun!

I finally completed the 1st world subboss... And when I say completed, I mean, you can kill it, and it can kill you, but it's a little glitchy, and needs more polish.

The whole point of the boss is that is can smash up the level. I'll demonstrate what I mean:

Boss begins:

2 minutes later:

It's the kind of boss that's really hard at first, but really easy once you get the hang of it.

To me, this boss is absolutely no challenge, but then again, I programmed him... I'm still thinking about making him a bit harder.

Old Sketches

I found some old sketches I made a long time ago. I thought it'd be funny to compare to the real thing. Can't believe I didn't do this before.

Not much of an update at all, but funny nontheless..

Skull JR and Skull SR aren't used in the game yet. And I just made Skump Bomber yesterday. I'm still intending to use it as a boss. A boss that can blow up pieces of the level (Tiles and such). That should be interesting :)

Lava

I was getting bored with trying to make Kensuo work as it did before, so I went on and added new features I've always wanted, but didn't have the time for.

Animated tiles! Hoorah!

I had to modify the engine to make sure all levels remained backwards compatible, but that new levels with animated tiles would work too. Thank god I still remembered how I programmed the whole thing, or this would have been really complicated.

So now I have melting lava. I'd post a screenshot, but it wouldn't really show the animation, so there's no point.

And now to get back to conversationboxes...
