Get this:

Left on its own, a capitalist system will split the very rich from the very poor until there is no more middle class, at which point the entire economy will collapse or else there will be an unimaginably bloody Marxist uprising and revolution. The U.S. government has up until 2000 controlled this splitting tendency, but Bush's tax policies have so heavily favored the rich while pushing the middle class downward that even if a new President refused to bow to billionaire lobbyists and fought like hell to reverse the trend it's unlikely he could succeed. Right now, a person working for minimum wage in the U.S. would have to work for seven thousand years to make as much money as Larry Ellison makes in a single year. The velocity at which the proverbial shit is approaching the proverbial fan is rather alarming.

The only reason it hasn't happened yet? Credit card debt. People spending other people's money. It keeps consumption in the lower class up just enough not to trigger a crash that would make the Great Depression look like a minor inconvenience.

The American economy is held together by credit card debt.

We are so fucking fucked.

Sorry man. :eyeroll:

But hey, aside from that debt problem, Bush, and the population's terrible christianity the United States are pretty awesome! It has New York, great possibilities to start a company, a lot of different climates to choose from, and that's all very awesome. I'll go live there as soon as I have enough money.

I'm coming Woody, wait for me!

Why, are they making America do tithing? :P

I'd rather have an America lead by evangelical Christians then a China lead by anti-religious atheists though ¬_¬

But the Netherlands is the best of course. ChristenUnie for the win! :yay:

Of course, what is called Christianity might be better called 'American civil religion'. I doubt Jesus would (does?) agree with some of what the republicans are doing (and possibly the democrats!)

Btw Woody, as I understand it, most global economies are tied together with nothing but debt. It's true that Bush has sent your economy to Oblivion, but the likely hood of a violent marxist uprising in America is slim.

Probably.

atheists are religious too. They believe something from science and science will eventually exist from religion too.

i.e. 1 and 1 is 2 because GOD WANTS IT. So God is this some kind of guy or is it more like a gas giant like Jupiter?

Its a bit unfair to land the whole blame on a religion surely? One that is made up of many people with personal beliefs.

Religion can often have little to no bearing on politics. For example, a bill has just passed through the House of Lords (which has many bishops) about sexual orientation equality that the vast majority of chirstians of all denominations were opposed to. Personally, I can't believe it got through the lords.

(For those who don't know: for a law, or bill, to be passed in England it has to be debated and voted on lots by the House of Commons [green furnature, elected representitives] before being given to the House of Lords for approval [red furnature, non-elected, aristocratic] and is finally signed by The Queen [more of a ceremonial thing, I don't know what happens if she refuses])

Well seperation of the the church and the state is one the founding principles of American democracy, but those principles are being violated by republican senators and congressman. Im not saying all republicans are bad, but a majority are controlled by greed-orientated motives (such is the nature of their party) and as a result, oil companies, massively polluting firms and ridiculously religious savages have far more say than everybody else. It is nice that the democrats have finally taken some power back, but IMO its too late for most of the damage caused by bush.

PB: what is tithing?

Oscoder: "American civil religion"? why would you call it that? we dont call al qaeda Middle Eastern death worship. Its Islamic radicalism or extremism, just as it is Christian radicalism or extremism in the US.

Bush's administration puts business and politics of fear ahead of religious fundamentalism. That was some sort of trick to get the religious mainstream to vote for them.

Slimey fucks.

PB: what is tithing?

Giving 10% of your earnings to a good cause (or the church). Originally the Jews did it, but certain Christian churches also encourage their members to give 10%.

Science is not a religion, it's a system to gain knowledge though ovservation and experimentation. It has nothing to do with believe... At most science has unproven premises and theories.

Atheism is indeed a religion: it's te believe that there is no god. Still many fundamentalist atheists are anti-religious though. Anti-religious people are always a bit crazy though :eyeroll: :P
