Supreme Commander and Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars have just been released! This is great, because the RTS genre is great. I am a bit suspicious however of the quality of at least one of these titles (C&C 3). For some reason a lot of 3D RTS's turn out shit (not to mention have any notable multiplayer), and I still dislike it how Age of Empires 3 and C&C Generals fuck with these once great series. While C&C wasn't doing very well in my eyes already, Command and Conquer Generals was just to cry about so uninteresting and unbalanced with it's superweapons.

I expect C&C 3 to be very much like C&C Generals. This means unbalanced and judging from the advertisements it has American trends in it like "Fight terrorism!" From what I've read however EA did place the side bar back on the right, but I doubt this does the trick in making this a good game.

Supreme Commander would have an awesome multiplayer/skirmish mode, but would also be lengthy and extensive like Rome Total War. Also one would need a supreme pc to run it.

Anyone bought any of these games and can report on his findings? Maybe if Supreme Commander has awesome multiplayer we should all buy it and have it replace Red Alert 1 rumbles?

Using my Awemazing Skills I nearly completed the first level of the campaign on easy.

My computer isn't nearly supreme enough to run it though.

Is it fun? Is the actual game actually a continuous battle or does it have a management mode and a battle mode like Rome Total War?

I've said all I need to about Supreme Commander elsewhere on the internet. In a nutshell I consider it an incredible disappointment the likes of which I've never before seen. The single player mode is slightly better than skirmish, but not by much.
It has some great mechanics that would lead extremely well to other RTS games, but as a whole it's executed poorly, it's a victim of it's own scale on all fronts.

C&C3 on the other hand is a ridiculous surprise, it's absolutely brilliant, and considering I expected complete and utter shit of it, that's quite an achievement. I can't wait for it to come out. (Not long now) The demo has kept me entertained for hooours on end. The Nod Avatar of War is *hell yeah*.

Keep in mind I dislike Generals, the only thing it really has in common is the control method (right click action) but they have said they will put in a "classic" control method later on in a patch.
In all honesty, C&C3 really is C&C3.

That's quite a surprise, not what I expected at all (a game magazine right next to me here rates Supreme Commander 9.3/10). But stimmt, demos, I'll download demos of both games when my new internet connection is ready in two days. I'm not used anymore to downloading demos since they're crazy in size these days and my old connection was lossy, but soon everything will change!

Any game built on hype will get good game magazine reviews.

I learnt to stop reading them a long, long time ago, it's about time more people did the same. It's never just the bullshit opinion of one person, it's the bullshit opinion of one person working for a company that would have ties to the game publisher causing a shift in real opinion.

Put it this way, publisher pays money to advertise their game in your magazine. Publisher sees bad review. Publisher tends not to go with you anymore.

I've seen game magazine reviews that completely slander games before and yet bizarrely enough end up giving it ratings over 90%. It's incredible that they're allowed to get away with it by gamers.

In fact I noticed this too. I don't regularly buy game magazines, but I couldn't resist this issue with a full C&C front cover with Kane on it AND reviews of C&C 3 and Supreme Commander. I enjoyed reading a bit about these games as I knew practically nothing about them. So, interest in an informative way.

It's amazing how you probably are having it right here: there are actually multiple full page advertisements for Supreme Commander in this issue, next to a normal review.

Anyway, I'm curious to check out the games!

despite alot of my friends saying the C&C3 demo was shit, i loved it. I thought Tiberium Sun was a shitload better than RA2 and i love how the new one follows through on that style. I would buy it as soon as its out, but im in a tight situation moneywise atm.

Official PS2 magazine beat the shit out of Enter the Matrix and then gave it a 9/10. Which is pretty hilarious.

I used to read Edge magazine as that has a fairly balanced point of view, especially as they consider a game with a score of 5 to be average, where a lot of magazines leave it at 7.

Its been out a while now, but I'm really enjoying Rise of Legends. Maybe I've just been out of the RTS loop for too long (I've been generally avoiding strategy games which looked too much like an age of empires clone) and I have to admit I got it based soley how it looked visually (I love the unit designs) - but its a lot of fun and has some interesting features.

Dispite what Fi says about Supreme Commander I'm reserving judgement on it until I've got round to playing the demo in some serious depth. If its anything like the original Total Annihilation I suspect it needs some getting used to before it can be fully appreciated (the price you pay for innovation I suppose).

C&C3 looks pretty nice - it seems to have equal helpings of Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2 and Generals - so there's something for everyone I suppose. Its obvious they've worked hard to please the Command and Conquer fans going all the way back the first game.

Interesting you mentioned this - I got that vibe from C&C3, though obviously slightly more disguised than in Generals. The Brotherhood of Nod were always a terrorist organisation of course, but in this one there's definately some GLA from Generals in them. Having said that, this is only from playing it for about half an hour so maybe I'm being too quick to judge.

I don't know how many times I have to say that there is no innovation, it just has huge scale, which destroys any semblance of game and strategy. And that I also like Total Annihilation, and SC has nothing on it.

I'll be honest, I never thought Generals was as bad as everyone says. Sure it wasn't all that deep, but it was pretty fun to play a strategy game that revelled in tank rushes. Saying that, the GLA were my favourite faction to play with. Stealthy like fucking ninjas.

I've been wanting Rise of Legends for quite a while. Everything about it looks really cool.

I've also wanted Ground Control 2 since like forever.

Frim really likes Rise of Legends. He's been playing it a lot lately. Coincidently, the campaign mode is nearly exactly like the Dawn of war: Dark Crusade one.

By the way, those screenshots of it are incredibly deceptive. Don't trust them, I found it to be a pretty much cookie cutter RTS. I've played much better. Some of the designs are nice, but only for the Vinci, all the other races look a bit poo.

Casper is right. Skip Ground Control 2, it ruins everything that was good about Ground Control. Stay with the first game and smile at the fact that you're playing something wonderful.

I have been playing C&C3 for the past few days constantly.
It's even more amazing than the demo even made out.

Now if they would just fix the completely broken net code.. (They promise a patch in the next week or so.)

I like Command & Conquer 3 aswell. At any rate it's better than Tiberian Sun. No losses are acceptable, so my progress through the GDI campaign is a bit slow... :D

Edit: Ugh, a casualty on mission 5. Unacceptable...
