will directx10 still be compatible with older graphics cards? I heard rumours it will not, and you will be forced to buy a new one.

And will windows vista be a pain in the ass, like XP was in 2001 by offering the absolute minimum to backwards compatibility?

As far as I know, to support DirectX 10, you will need a new graphics card, but you are not forced to buy a new one, because Windows Vista also supports DirectX 9 (a newer version of it though). However new games will probably use DirectX 10, so to run them, you will probably need a new graphicscard...

EDIT: So you do need a graphicscard that supports DirectX 9 though...

I'll better wait for it... its just like that 64 bit windows. Microsoft people are cool though. They don't wear silly costumes :p
