Why do you need your console ( a PS2 ) chipped to play copies of games? My DVD player doesn't care so why does the console seem to find a difference or does it?

Legal games tend to have a section on the DVD which cannot be copied. Or something. The chip makes sure the PS2 doesn't care or fools the PS2 the section is there. Or something

It's because Sony get a little bit of money from games you buy but DVD player manufacturers do not get them from DVDs.

maybe it's because DVDs are so ridiculously expensive that DVD-player producers expect everyone to copy them.

What? Games are worse per-product than games are.
Only the highest budgeted games cost as much as a film would.

You'll go to the cinema for £5, buy a DVD for £12, but happily buy a game for £40?
It's bizarre.

Everything is expected to be pirated.

Did you know the games industry is actually more lucrative than the movie industry? It's not hard to see why.

you mean than DVDs? I think a movie is like "you watch it, takes approx. 100 minutes, then throw it away" A game is different, more hours fun and not just watching, actually interactive. I never have watched the same movie in less than 2 months time between it.

I heard people will have to pay 100 for a ps3 game. (a special type of DVD?)

edit: make that weeks of fun, cause you don't finish every game in one time.

I don't understand your sentence "Games are worse per-product than games are". ok you mean price-wise but what kind of games are you referring to?

Rhovanion. Because of the thread of conversation, Ferret obviously meant "Games" and "DVDs".

Don't be a whiner. Ferret has made a good point and she was in this case, right. Don't try and fight this. You are just complicating the inevitable.

Excuse ME mr. Flaming-my-ass-off :) I don't think I was the one complicating things. I asked if she meant DVDs instead of Games but she said "worse price-wise" so don't come here trying to make a point even my grandmother already knows. :)

A privat jet is 'worse price-wise' then an apple too, but this doesn't mean the jet sucks... I.E. you are not looking at what you get for those prices, like Rhovanion does, so maybe one of you should actually *read* what he posts instead of bitching him off.

I think Ferret thinks a movie as well as a DVD is the same blinking disc with data on it and one costing £15 and the other costing £40. But I think you pay for more than just that disc, as sandman says they are two totally different things and you can't compare them that easily. As I stated in my previous post, games give you more joy than a movie. Imagine a movie would cost £40, no one wants to pay that much for 1 hour of pleasure. People are willing to pay £40 for a game because it brings them more joy for a longer period of time.

Yeah, sure. But games are overpriced. When you think it's only a "blinking disk".

They make up far far more of a profit per product.

Totally not true, the volume of games bought greatly outweighs the amount pirated. Why do you think the game industry is worth such a huge amount? The truth is that even more people would buy more games if they were cheaper, but no one (EA) wants to take this risk.

Also there's some sort of percieved value of a game that is £40 compared to one that's £5. It's all your fault. :eyeroll:

According to someone it's research facilities for games. movie producers have LOADS of cinema income. (i.e. a million people watching 1 copy)
