Hi,

I've been trying to make azureus work lately but it keeps saying there is a NAT error. Certainly I checked my router settings and port forwarding all okay.

Later I discovered the port (50129) doesn't get blocked by the router but by the firwall (sygate). I tried everthing (advanced rules, etc) to make it allow the traffic, but it keeps blocking port 50129 (I added the ports to Local for both TCP and UDP)...

Without firewall it works.

I'm clueless...

Azureus is a piece of shit with firewalls. Just use the default client.

Get rid of sygate, have Windows firewall enabled. Then you're behind a hardware firewall (aka your router - as long as you don't forward every single port to your computer) AND Windows firewall, more than enough. :what:

Oh man, BOOOOO Windows Firewall. It's such an amazing piece of shit. That whole Security Center is for that matter, no wonder I removed it.

Don't use azureus, it sucks ass. I use Morpheus for torrents, it handles them with no fuss and no setup.

What is wrong with Azereus? It works fine and dandy. I think everyone is going to say don't use "client x" use "client y" the only way is to try out several and see which you prefer.

So you don't use a (software) firewall? Do you use anti-virus software?

The last time I checked, Windows Firewall only blocked incoming signals, not outgoing ones. Don't quote me on this, I just read it on some security site somewhere.

Edit: OMG >> "My own take on the windows firewall is that it's ok if you don't have any traffic going out of the network and you think you can manage to not download any trojans in the first place. As I underswtand it the windows firewall only blocks incoming traffic, not outgoing - so for example if you do get a trojan/worm/etc infecting your machine, the windows firewall may well allow it to propogate/spread because it still allows outgoing traffic regardless. I may be wrong about that though :)"

PEader: I actually had my eyes on this beauty.

Yeah, but it helps to hear other people's opinions. I tried azures and found that it took a lot of non-user-friendly configuring that doesnt work for lots of people. Morpheus just does what its supposed to, no fuss, dead easy to use.

Who needs all this software firewall shit, it's more trouble than it's worth. I'm using whatvere my router is doing, forwarded the Azureus ports and WHAM it's fine and dandy. I also think Azureus is brilliant, it's only real problem is that it can be a resource hog, but I don't seem to notice it these days at all.
As for setting it up, it has like a setup wizard and most of the defaults are great, even then it's all seft-explanitory, but the amount of things you can set, define and change is what I love so much about Azureus anyway.

I'm using static NAT. So I better keep my firewall on. Azureus works even worse with windows firewall on...

I had no problems with Norton Personal Firewall. Maybe I'll install that one again.

I wouldn't give Norton the time of day. Zonealarm is a very good software firewall.

Ferret is right.
Also AVG is a nice anti-virus and firewall program in one. There is even a free version available.
