So I have to complete my paper on philosophy and the following question has been asked:

"How does technology affect human relationships?"

I have my input on it - which I'll share sometime soon. I'm too busy now with the paper itself.

Let me know your thoughts on this question. :)

Computer technology, at this point, is integrated in human life and will continue to integrate even more. Not only do we interact with technology (say "open Windows 3.11!" to turn your tv on), but it also interacts with us: "did you mean pork?". Not only does technology interact with us, but also other humans interact with us though the same technology.

Personally I feel that kids up till young adults are affected mostly by technology, because they are developing most of their personality. And these days, it are not just the nerd-kids who isolate themselves because of technology. Every kid will be affected by it while they grow up.

So the question "How does technology affect human relationships?" is fundamental to how human society will develop. Both on local and on international scale, technology affects everyone.

In a way, technology takes away many frictions in communication. Because we are not naturally connected, we can leave out the impulses we do not desire (voice intonation, facial expressions, thinking time, farts). Although we might not always like these impulses, leaving them out, creates a distorted message distanced from who people really are. Other frictions appear in return.

Because different generations in society get used to different kind of frictions in communication. This can create a bigger social gap between generations than their used to be.

Through technology it's just as easy to communicate with someone next door, as it is to a group of people you've never met, from all over the world. Where there are all kinds of sub cultures around the world, all these sub cultures are slowly exposed to international views. Over time, ancient traditions become meaningless and fade away. New sub-culture form, because humans are humans, but they are superficial and do not last long.

I don't think my words cover the question fully, but I don't feel like writing more. I suppose the key answer to the question remains: bacon!
