Does anyone know how I get the hostname visible "externally"? My router lists two windows PCs by their hostnames, but the linux box is just "unknown". Presumably the Windows PCs broadcast the hostname to the router and other things on the network somehow? I don't know how that works. Would fixing that also let me ssh into it using @hostname rather than specifying the IP? This is CentOS (Red Hat). ____________ :o |

It's exactly the same in Ubuntu ( ) too... Maybe this is common to all Linuxes and only something supported by Windows??
