The next instalment of the tri-annual 48 hour solo game development competition, Ludum Dare 13, will be upon us in a matter of weeks. 5th-7th December are the dates, so if you fancy a sleep-deprived adrenaline-fuelled 48 hours of extreme code hacking, be sure to check out the site and suggest a theme. See you there!

Wow, that's incredibly inconvenient
I was thinking of doing the next ludum dare, but the first two weeks of december are likely to be 2 of the most stressful and busy weeks of this year

The game has performance issues for me. And by issues I mean I can count the individual frames.

It's slow as molasses for anything less than like 3ghz machine. I'm going to try and optimise it - it's due to blitting huge graphics for the scroll.

It's playable in the sense that it has a reasonable framerate, (I can make 9 full turns a minute), but the car has challenging handling. I finished the game with 1 hitpoint on my last life.

It's really difficult! Are the cars so hard to handle with everyone else?

It's kinda on purpose.
The game was too easy to win. So I made it so you couldn't turn on the spot (LIKE A REAL CAR) and it suddenly became ridiculous.

Remember, there's an OAP behind the wheel.

Well it doesn't run very smooth here sadly. I like the talk boxes. I don't like that when I steer left and go backwards, I go right. And I got stuck in a house once. Music is nice. That amazingly wide turn circle is driving me insane.

Did you use the patched version? There's still room for optimisation though I guess.
What's your machine like?

Yeah that was pointed out to me late on and I just didn't have time to sort it. :(

Don't even talk about the collision detection. It's awful, I'm constantly getting stuck in houses. Again, time issue.

Thanks.

You're probably right that should be tightened up a bit.

If I get any time in the future I'll try and fix collision and handling issues. Also speed it up a bit more.
It'd be nice to have this on BS.

I've got an AMD AthlonXP 2500MHz+ cpu and a Radeon 9800XT. I did use the patched version, though.

Confused.

Mark's is far slower than that, but it ran at constantly 30 fps for him - which is what it's capped too... :what:

Well it certainly appears to be slow. Don't see any FPS counter though.

...Aaaaand I'm done.

Made a game about blobs.

It's actually really fun. You should try it. This one might appear on Boolean Soup as in my opinion it's the most polished of all my Ludum Dare entries thus far.
