You can also play PSOne games on PSP and you only have 1 L and 1 R button. So I don't think there is a problem?

Did you know that the L and R buttons on playstation pads are analog? The only game I know of off-hand that makes use of it is Metal Gear Solid. (Pushing it in a little makes you aim, pressing it all the way makes you shoot.)

The L and R buttons on the PSOne pads are not analog. For PS2 they are I think.

Probably, still a fun fact that most people aren't aware of, mostly because it's never made use of.

I think the face buttons are too, but I'm not too sure on that.

The X and others are indeed also analogue, used in Gran Turismo.

The analogue face buttons are used quite a lot (esp. in racing games), but its not normally that noticable

The only analog buttons on PSone were the left and right stick. For sure!

Not until PS2 were the other buttons analog as well.

What would you recommend as the best investment? GPX or PSP?

If you want to develop your own stuff or use emulators and play .... homebrew stuff then get a GP2X. But I wouldn't bank on the PS1 emulator being any use. I tried FFVII on it and it took several minutes to get to the start screen and then froze. But maybe it has improved, that was quite a while ago.

If you want to pay $$$ for fancy commercial games then get a PSP...

For the amount I use my GP2X, I'd rather have a PSP, at least that is supposed to have wireless internet.

PSOne games on the PSP run very smoothly. I played FFIX a few hours on it and had no problems at all. I also played some other PSOne games without any problems.

I'd say depends on what you want to use it for. If you want to use for stuff besides fancy PS games, go for the GP2X. If you want both, go for the GP3X coming out coming this Christmas.

So if I wanna program games on the toilet, or play snes games and old style games of old, I better choose a GPX. If I want to play new games which are "ZOMG old crap" after 2 weeks, I buy a PSP?

Maybe I'll buy both then :D

Thanks for the info.

Seriously, I've been hella considering it when it's released. Far better than a GP2X.

Mate I had the same dilema of what to buy...

about your comment on the PSP - you dont need to buy any fancy games and pay lots of $$$ - just heck it like everyone does and use the flash card to store the images of the games (*.iso,*.ico) that can be easily downloaded even via rapidshare.

google for psp hecks and read the tutorials about how to heck it... its simple - the only thing you must waste money is the flash card :P buy 8gig once and you have more then anought ^_^

I mirrored it for you Dennis, aren't I kind. Assuming Work is the only time you go on BS.

Hmm, I wonder if the buttons will be fixed the right way round on this thing. Perhaps that will be an upgrade!

It does look nice and shiny.

I don't know if any of this is now relevant, however -

I own two GP2Xs - F100 and F200, together with a PSP.

Generally I prefer GP2X for emulation, however PSX emulation is rather poor.

I'd also go for the Wiz over the GP2X now - it's twice as fast, now has 4 proper buttons (rather than a second D-Pad) and has an internal, rechargable battery. It's also about £92 via PlayAsia, so is cheaper than an F200 and PSP.

The Wiz will also play host to some fantastic homebrew stuff withou fecking around with battery hacks (my PSP is hacked). Wiz will also be getting commercial stuff, but it's not likely that the big boys will support it.

However, if money is no issue, I'd wait for the Pandora.

The Pandora will do everything the Wiz can, and a lot more besides. I think homebrew devs will probably work on both initially, but I can see Pandora hogging the mainshare in the end, due to its sheer power and extra abilities (plus Craigix is based in the UK and will happily discuss problems with developing, unlike GPH who are based in Korea, who dump and run).

PSX emulation is already full speed, without optimisation. Other emus are also working, including MAME and SNES - again at full or better speeds, without optimisation.
